On January 22nd we began the pump station project to address issues with our well. First, the motor and 250 ft of column pipe was removed to expose the 45 year old vertical turbine pump. We then brushed and flushed the entire well from the top to the bottom screen area. This process was necessary to loosen forty years of iron build up on the walls and especially the screen area openings. Today the video inspection revealed that the well walls are in good shape with no holes or cracks, but the screen was heavily clogged from iron buildup which ultimately caused the pump failure. This buildup of iron is normal in a well of this age and will be treated with a chemical solvent then blasted off with a jetting tool prior to installation.
Financially this was the best case scenario for us. Specifically, we will be installing a more efficient submersible pump instead of a vertical turbine, cleaned and treated the well walls and screen areas twice, videoed, and refit the new pump station piping. This afternoon I ordered all the materials with our contractors and we will be fully functioning by the end of February.
